Specsavers Opticas Benidorm

Global optical retailer Specsavers opened their Benidorm store in November 2011 in c/ de Gambó 2. It was the fourth Specsavers on the Costa Blanca and gave the Costa Blanca the highest concentration of Specsavers Opticas stores in Spain. Other stores can be found in Calpe, Javea, Torrevieja and Benidorm on the Costa Blanca, Fuengirola and Marbella on the Costa del Sol and Santa Ponça in Mallorca.

Benidorm was chosen as a perfect location for a Specsavers due to the mix of Spanish and foreign residents and high volume of tourists over the summer months and has proved popular with residents and tourists alike over the last three years. There are two store directors, Phil Morgan and Jorge Martinez de Lizarduy Araico, available to support both English and Spanish speaking customers and multi-lingual staff members.

Since opening they have been busy supporting local charities such as the Red Cross, the Lions Club and EMAUS with fundraising as well as offering comprehensive eye tests and excellent value glasses and contact lenses. They are a drop off point for unwanted glasses which are reused by the Lions Club for those in need in the developing world.
Specsavers Opticas in Benidorm is committed to supporting local charities and events which benefit the community and inspire a healthy, active lifestyle. Store Director Jorge Martinez de Lizarduy Araico is a keen runner and with the Specsavers Opticas team they have participated in many gruelling challenges including competing in G2 Haundiak Ultra Trail Event, one of the toughest races in the whole of Spain, to compete and spread the message of the importance of suitable eye protection to avoid UV damage. They have also sponsored events such as the 24 Hour Padel Competition and Benidorm’s International Tourist Chess Competition. These two fun events encouraged healthy bodies and minds and engaged the local community and so Specsavers was delighted to be involved.

Store Director Phil Morgan believes that supporting local events and charities is an important responsibility as a business who wants to have an active role in the community. “We want to get behind events which inspire a healthy, active lifestyle, engage residents and tourists alike and are linked to our commitment to good optical health. If more businesses did the same we could have even more free events to benefit our community.”
