Travellers on a budget can find a number of hostels known as pensións although most of these tend to be budget hotels with individual rooms as opposed to dormitories. There is also the latest craze known as ”Couchsurfing” that has rapidly grown throughout the world with over 5 million members in more than 97,000 cities. How it works is, members offer each other a spare room or even a couch for a night or two free of charge, although being a member you are expected to reciprocate the kindness on occasion. This is a great way to travel the world on a shoestring budget, but for the sake of all members, don’t abuse peoples kindness.

Holiday apartments such as Apartamentos Maria Cristina, located on Poniente Beach are a very popular accommodation option, especially for large groups or families as many sleep up to 10 people. They also come fully equipped with everything you will need during your stay. These make up for the majority of Benidorm’s high rise buildings and most are conveniently within walking distance to the popular tourist areas and beaches. Actual hotels start from basic establishments that usually just have en-suite rooms, without services and facilities such as bars, restaurants, swimming pools, parking, room or laundry service.

Then you have mid range hotels that do have all these facilities, and most have the option of half and full board. Finally there are the luxurious 4 & 5* hotels and resorts such as the 4* Sandos Mónaco Beach Hotel that cater to your every need, with all inclusive stays offering a selection of bars and restaurants where you can eat and drink till your heart’s content. There are also lounge areas, conference centres, gardens, swimming pools and spa & wellness centres where pampering yourself with beauty treatments, massages and saunas makes you realise just what you are paying for. A number of these hotels are adult only establishments so bear that in mind when making any hotel booking. There are also a couple of themed hotels in the city such as its very first music themed hotel, the large Marconfort Benidorm Suites. Here guests can enjoy a great range of facilities and entertainment, both indoors and around the pool area where they organise exciting activities for the kids. Adults are encouraged to sing and play various instruments in their 2 music bars, Rock n Sports Bar and Jazz & Blues Club.

Benidorm’s residential areas offer further holiday accommodation in the form of apartments, townhouses, bungalows, cottages and villas. These are another excellent choice for groups or families, and many are located in gated communities where residents or guests share facilities such as swimming pools, tennis courts, green areas and parks. You will also find detached properties with private gardens and pools, some of the more exclusive ones, front line to the beach. Prices with this type of accommodation vary depending on the area, size of the property and facilities available. The vast majority are privately owned and some owners choose to advertise through an estate agent, whereas others rely on word of mouth and newspaper or internet adverts. A couple of things to bear in mind, if renting your accommodation through an agent, they will always charge a fee, whether it’s worked into the price or on top of the price. Also, if renting a property in a community with shared facilities, make sure you confirm the owners community charges are fully paid up, otherwise you may find yourself denied access to the swimming pool or tennis courts.
