Benidorm is located on the spectacular Costa Blanca in Spain and as such, enjoys over 300 days of sunshine a year; ideal for a round of golf! With such an ideal climate it’s no wonder Spain has a rich heritage in the sport of golf, boasting golfing legends such as Seve Ballesteros, Sergio Garcia, Miguel Angel Jimenez and Jose Maria Olazabal, to name a few. In recent years the Costa Blanca has been recognised a leading attraction in Europe for golf lovers and sunny Benidorm provides an ideal base for a golfing holiday or venue for an occasional round by holidaymakers.
Golf in Benidorm can be enjoyed at a selection of clubs and probably the best known golf club in the Benidorm area is Villaitana which comprises two eighteen hole courses. Opened in 2005 and designed by golfing great Jack Nicklaus and his son, Villaitana has a par 72 Championship North Course and a par 62 Executive South Course. Set in a pine filled valley, these two courses are suitable for players of all levels and offer views to the Mediterranean Sea and the mountains inland. The South Course is only 4,200 yards long and popular with beginners while the longer 7,200 yards North Course has wide undulating fairways water hazards and large lush greens. Villaitana offers a large modern clubhouse with all the facilities one might expect and prices for a round of golf start at a very reasonable 54€ including transport from central Benidorm, hire of golf clubs, golf buggy and green fees.
Don Cayo golf course is a short drive from Benidorm. This nine hole course dates from 1974 when golf in Benidorm was still in its infancy, making it one of the oldest on the Costa Blanca. Nestled in the shadows of the Sierra Bernia mountain range, this picturesque course features a 630 yards par 5 hole, one of the longest in Europe. Also within driving range of Benidorm are the 18 hole Bonalba Golf Resort and the Club de Golf Ifach, a 9 hole course.
For those less energetic who fancy a round of pitch and putt, Benidorm offers Las Rejas golf complex and Golf Sierra Cortina. Being a major tourist destination, aside from golf in Benidorm visitors will be spoilt for choice with accommodation and entertainment options while on the sunny Costa Blanca.
